The Daghestani interior ministry and the republic's department of the Federal Security Service are searching for a Dutch citizen, head of the Medecins Sans Frontieres mission in Daghestan Arion Erkel, who was kidnapped late on Monday, the Daghestani interior ministry's press service reported on Tuesday.
Arion Erkel, born in 1970, was kidnapped late on August 12th from the suburban community Sputnik on the outskirts of Makhachkala where he was making a visit.
Supposedly, three unknown individuals, armed with guns, put him in a VAZ-21099 car and took in an unknown direction.
The search is conducted by the police and other law enforcing structures of the republic's cities and districts, including those neighbouring on Chechnya, said the press service's head police colonel Abdulmanat Musayev.
The kidnappers have not announced their demands so far.
The choice of the city of Helsinki is not incidental as the capital of Finland had hosted US-Soviet negotiations on the limitation of nuclear stockpiles in 1969
