Belarus security council state secretary to visit Iran

Belarussian security council state secretary Gennady Nevyglas will visit Iran on June 16-18. The visit is planned as a response to Iranian Supreme national security council secretary Hasan Rowhani's visit to Minsk that took place in January 2000, said the Belarussian foreign ministry in a statement.

Nevyglas is expected to use this trip for planning Iranian president Mohammad Khatami's visit to Belarus. He will also discuss possibilities of intensifying joint efforts in fighting international terrorism, preventing drug dealing, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and means of their production with his counterpart. The ministers will define possible forms of coordinating work of law enforcing structures in both countries on these issues.

The parties will exchange information on activities of the national export control systems.

The Belarussian foreign ministry reports that international and regional issues, including the situation in the CIS, Central Asia and the Middle East, will also be on the agenda. The ministers will touch upon the humanitarian cooperation in connection with the situation in Afghanistan and Belarus' possible participation in restoring Afghanistan's economy.
