Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov is awaited with a visit to Lithuania. The Lithuanian foreign minister, Antanas Valionis, said that the possibility of Ivanov's visit to Vilnius, earlier planned for last December, was discussed during his negotiations with his Russian counterpart in Russia's capital. Valionis said that the expected Russian foreign minister's visit to Lithuania will focus on bilateral relations. Special attention will be given to provision of the Kaliningrad region (Russia's Western enclave) following the eastward expansion of the European Union. According to the Lithuanian foreign minister, Vilnius is winding up negotiations with the European Union and is going to do all to help Russia resolve its problems related to the Kaliningrad region.
