Uzbekistan-India cooperation in the education sphere

Uzbekistan and India have a close identity of views on political issues including security and stability. It does not only that India appreciate Uzbekistan's firm opposition to the forces of extremism and terrorism but both countries also have a common vision of peace and prosperity for the region.

This was told by the new Indian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Mr. Sarat Sabharwal who opened the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) day in Tashkent. The function was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Members of Parliament, Uzbek students, officers and diplomats who earlier studied in India through ITEC.

Minister of Higher Education Mr. A. Gulyamov told that cooperation between Uzbekistan and India under ITEC has made considerable progress in the recent years. This training covers a large number of fields including information technology, journalism, diplomacy, management etc.

About ITEC

Started in 1964, the ITEC programme today covers cooperation with 144 countries of the world. It encompasses training of foreign nationals in India educational institutions on fully government budget. The annual budget of this programme stands at 8.5 million US $. Uzbekistan became ITEC partner in 1993 when Uzbek nationals attended various training courses in India. This programme is the vehicle through which India shares experience with other countries in their task of economic development and technological advancement.
