Uzbekistan radio - 40 Years of Foreign Broadcasting

The Uzbekistan Radio is having department of foreign broadcast and everyday the station is broadcasting the program in twelve foreign languages including English, German, Persian, Turkish etc. Today the Hindi section of Radio Tashkent jointly with the Embassy of India is celebrating 40th year of regular broadcast which began in the year 1962. Radio Tashkent program listeners are not only in Asia but in Europe also which continues to receive several letters from its ardent listeners.

The friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and India are based on the solid foundation of our shared historical and cultural heritage. Uzbekistan has similar concerns as India on a number of issues affecting peace and stability in the region. This was the essence of the speech of the new Indian Ambassador in Uzbekistan, Mr. Sarat Sabharwal who today opened the 40th anniversary of Hindi program on Uzbekistan Radio on the premises of Indian Culture Center, Tashkent. Uzbekistan carries the glory of a great civilization, which is thousands of years old and has taken a significant stride forward in the spheres of external relations, added Indian Ambassador.

Chairman of the TV & Broadcasting Company of Uzbekistan Mr. Abdusaid Kuchimov who presided over the function told that India and Uzbekistan shared a deep cultural and historical bond. Further he spoke on the close friendship enjoyed by the two countries. The function was attended by the Director of foreign broadcast Mr. Gulyamov Sherzod, diplomats, employees and officials of the TV & Broadcasting Company besides the large number of Indologists and Hindi specialists.

Iindia –Uzbekistan Relations:

Relations between India and Uzbekistan are cemented together at various levels to facilitate intensive and productive cooperation. The cooperation between the two countries have and continue to be multifaceted covering a range of political, economic and cultural issues. Uzbekistan actively develops trade relations with India. So, for the last ten years trade volumes were increased 16 times making up 33,4 million USD in 2001 comparing with 2,1 million USD in 1992. In 2001, export from Uzbekistan made up 17,5 and import 15,9 million USD.

The area of cultural cooperation between the two countries is of great importance as people to people relations from the core of bilateral relations.
