Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Points to Solidarity of Russian and Azerbaijani Peoples

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexis II has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Geidar Aliyev and Head of Religious Administration of Caucasian Muslims Sheikh Allakhshuyura Pashazada for their assistance to restore the Cathedral of St. Myrrh-bearing Women in Baku, reads the Patriarch's letter which was spread by the AzerTadj Agency.

The Patriarch stated that the Cathedral's opening is another sign of the Azerbaijani leadership's tolerance towards the Orthodox Church, "the fraternal solidarity of Azerbaijani and Russian peoples", "true solidarity of Islam and other traditional religions." Alexei II was confident that representatives of the country's main religious groups living in friendly atmosphere would jointly build the future of Azerbaijan.

According to the Patriarch, Azerbaijan must be an example for regions lacking interethnic and inter-religious solidarity.
