Estonian soldiers will take part in the peacemaking operation in Iraq. The Estonian government presented a project to parliament today to send troops to Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq in line with international obligations to provide security in the region after the war.
As a Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the press office of the Estonian government, the Ministry of Defense proposed sending up to 55 soldiers to the region on a six-month peacemaking mission. Two terms of six months are planned in total. The ministry added that all the expenses for the mission would be covered by extra budgetary funds.
'The Anglo-American military operation in Iraq is now reaching the stage when the provision of stability and security as well as humanitarian aid becomes the greatest concern,' runs the statement by the press office of the Estonian government.
