2003 officially proclaimed Year of Russia in Ukraine

President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine singed a decree Wednesday, in which 2003 has been officially proclaimed the Year of Russia in Ukraine.

The events organized during the Year of Russia in Ukraine are to promote cooperation between the two countries in the economic, social and humanitarian spheres.

The organizing committee is headed by Viktor Medvedchuk, chief of administration of the Ukrainian president.

Ukraine's State Committee for Information, Television and Radio Broadcasting has been instructed to provide broad coverage in the media of the events envisaged in the program of the Year of Russia in Ukraine
