Russian Division In Tajikistan To Be Transformed Into Military Base

Russia's 201st motorized rifle division stationed in Tajikistan will be transformed into a military base. This statement was made before reporters Wednesday by Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Nikolai Kormiltsev, commander-in-chief of the land forces who however failed to specify the dates connected with this operation, saying all would depend on a situation. Dealing with the financing of the 201st division, Kormiltsev reported that the Russian side is now responsible only for paying allowances to the personnel while all other expenses, including the upkeep of the garrisons, are borne by the Tajik side.
