Moscow sees the priority task for the CIS today in making its activities more specific. This is what the report on the results of the CIS activities over the past decade says. The report was prepared for the jubilee summit of the Commonwealth currently under way in Moscow. According to the working group which was in charge of the report, the CIS has played a stabilising role in the development of independent states despite the obvious evolution crises. The Commonwealth today is largely an irreplaceable instrument of cooperation between the member states but its potential is still to be realised to the full. To this end, joint efforts should be directed to those areas which meet common interests and can prove most effective, Russian experts believe.
