On November 19, the police of Kuwait arrested five supporters of the Islamic State. The extremists were purchasing weapons in Ukraine, officials at the Interior Ministry of the country said.

According to the AP, the leader of the criminal group was identified as a citizen of Lebanon, Osama Hayat, who confessed to recruiting fighters for the Islamic State and collecting money that he would then wire to accounts in Turkish banks. The agency noted that Hayat was also involved in the purchase of weapons in Ukraine, which he then shipped via Turkey to  the Islamic State in Syria.

The Kuwaiti police also arrested three Syrians and one Egyptian, who were engaged in arms supplies, as well as financial and transportation maintenance of the terrorist group.

In the summer of 2015, Kuwait became a target for a brutal attack conducted by the Islamic State group. On June 26, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a Shiite mosque in the area of Es Savabir  of the Kuwait City, at the time of a Friday prayer. Twenty-seven people were killed and at least 227 were injured.
