Russian Power-Generating Concern Signs Deal with Vietnam

The Russian company will produce, deliver and assemble the equipment for a Vietnam-based power plant

Concern Power-Generating Machines and the Vietnamese corporation Lilama signed a contract for the delivery of equipment for Uong Bi heating and electric power station.

General Director of the Russian machine-building concern Power-Generating Machines, Yevgeny Yakovlev, and General Director of the Vietnamese Lilama corporation, Pham Hung, signed a contract for the delivery of equipment for heating and electric power station Uong Bi. The contract stipulates that concern Power-Generating Machines undertakes to project, produce, deliver, assemble and launch the full complex of equipment for control and boiling shops of Uong Bi power plant.

The equipment for the power station includes a 300 megawatt steam turbine (produced by JSC Leningrad Metal Factory), a 320 megawatt turbogenerator (produced by JSC Elektrosila) and a steam-boiler with the production capacity of 920 tons of steam per hour (produced by the Taganrog-based boiler factory). The equipment will be delivered to increase the capacity of the functioning power station with 55 megawatt power-generating units, which were built with the USSR's assistance.  The station has been operating successfully since 1965. The plant is situated 150 kilometers far from Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital. It produces the electric power for industrial enterprises and the population of Vietnam's north.

The project to increase the capacity of the power plant has been ordered by the Vietnamese energetic corporation Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The Lilama Corporation took the project by contract, it had conducted the international tender for the delivery. As a result of the tender, the concern Power-Generating Machines became the winner to deliver the turbine and boiling equipment. The Russian concern competed with such enterprises as Alstom, Foster-Willer, Sumitomo and others.

According to the terms of the contract, the power-generating block of the Vietnamese power plant is to be launched in 33  months after the contract is concluded. The contract is evaluated in the sum of $83 million; it comes into effect from the moment of signing. The contract will be funded from the budget of Power-Generating Machines.

The contract between the Russian concern Power-Generating Machines and the Vietnamese Corporation Lilama is the first large contract in the field of the electric power engineering that a Russian company has managed to obtain in Vietnam over recent years.

The concern Power-Generating Machines is Russia's largest producer of all kinds of energetic equipment. The concern unites Russia's all leading enterprises of the field: JSC Leningrad Metal Factory, JSC Elektrosila, JSC Turbine Blades Factory, JSC Kaluga Turbine Factory, Energomashexport sales company.
