Pulkovo Airline Launches Passenger Service on German Railway Network

St. Petersburg airline Pulkovo has launched a new passenger service on the German railway network (Deutsche Bahn, DB). The service will take passengers from their airport of arrival to their end destination in Germany and back again. The company's press office told Rosbalt that the service makes use of a special cooperation programme between Deutsche Bahn and international airlines called Fly & Rail, which has been in operation for over 7 years.

A Deutsche Bahn ticket will be issued together with a ticket for a Pulkovo flight. A passenger with such a ticket will be able to travel on DB trains from his or her town of arrival to any town in Germany. The passenger will be free to choose which trains to travel on.

Pulkovo is Russia's oldest airline. It currently owns the Pulkovo 1 and Pulkovo 2 airports and two runways. The company has 24 Tu-154 planes, 11 Tu-134 planes, and 8 Il-86 planes. In the first quarter of 2003 the company carried 331,580 passengers, which represents an increase of 11.8% on the same period last year.

Deutsche Bahn is one of Europe's most modern railway networks, with a total length of around 40,000 kilometres.
