Kremlin to offer worthy substitute to Kadyrov

On June 15th President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a meeting with Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Chechnya Alu Alkhanov and plenipotentiary of the Russia's President in the Southern district Vladimir Yakovlev, reported president’s press-service.

The meeting mainly concerned the current socio-economic situation in the republic; establishment of a new mechanism of monetary control was also discussed.

Alu Alkkhanov informed the president of his intentions to run for president of Chechnya. Apparently, several groups of residents have asked him to take part in the presidential campaign. The elections are set for the last Sunday of August. These are going to be pre-termed presidential elections, due to the assassination of Chechen president Akhmad Kadyrov in Grozny on May 9th, 2004.

Kadyrov headquarter regards Alkhanov as its official candidate. Alkhanov is also a well-known political figure in the republic and possesses good reputation.

Vladimir Putin said he would not dismiss Alkhanov from his current post; Alkhanov will still be responsible for creating a mechanism of public control of monetary funds meant for the reconstruction of Chechnya and to be paid to those who had lost housing. The president stated that such public control is necessary to provide people with financial security.

Currently, General-Major Alu Alkhanov is considered the main candidate for the presidential post of the Chechen republic. “Alu Alkhanov is a worthy brother-in-arms of Akhmad Kadyrov; he was nominated for the post by the team of the deceased Chechen president and supported by numerous followers,” stated the son of the assassinated Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov.

Leader of the parliamentary bloc “Unified Russia”, speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov has already stated that he is ready to support Alkhanov in the pre-termed presidential elections. It is also highly likely that the Kremlin will also support his candidacy.
