Russia and Chile agree the world needs new system of relations between countries

Russian president Vladimir Putin is expected to visit Chile during the summit of Asian-Pacific Economic Commonwealth.
Foreign minister of Russia Igor Ivanov said this after his negotiations with President of Chile Ricardo Lagos. This was the first visit of Russian Foreign Minister in Chile for the period of the USSR and post-Soviet Russia. Igor Ivanov also intends to visit Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela during his 10 day trip around Latin America.
"We expect President of Russia to be able to visit Chile on this country President’s invitation during the summit of Asian-Pacific Economic Commonwealth”,- Igor Ivanov said. He added this visit would be the most important event in the relations between the two countries.
Ricardo Lagos said that during his visiting Moscow in 2002 he passed the official invitation for Vladimir Putin to visit Chile. "We both share the belief the world order should be based on democracy and market economy". Asian-Pacific Economic Commonwealth will take place in Chile in November 2004.

In the summary of their meeting Ivanov and Lagos made a statement that the world needs new just and democratic system of relations between countries. According to Russian Foreign Minister, the two countries have close cooperation in their mutual work in the UN Security Council and other organizations. Chile is a temporary member of the Security Council for 2003-2004. Igor Ivanov said Moscow is very glad with the progress in the relations between Russia and Chile. “Our mutual work demonstrated that we have many common view points on many important issues,”- the Minister said. He added there are possibilities for expanding the cooperation in terms of trade and economy, educational programs and development of high technologies.

In his turn, Ricardo Lagos encouraged the first visit of Russian Foreign Minister in Chile. "We are satisfied that this Latin American trip of Russian Foreign Minister started with our country”’- President of Chile said.
