Victor Khristenko was born on August 28, 1957 in Chelyabinsk, the Ural region.
Graduated from Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute and Academy of National Economy affiliated to Russian President. Doctor of Economy.

1979-1990 – computer engineer, Laboratory Head, Department Head, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor of Machine-Building Economics of Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute.
 
1991 – Chelyabinsk City Government: Deputy Chairman for Committee on Economics, Chairman for City Committee on Operating Property, Deputy Chairman of Chelyabinsk City Government.

1991-1994 – Deputy Governor of Chelyabinsk region, Chairman of Committee on Economics of Chelyabinsk reion government.

1994-1996 – Vice Governor of Chelybinsk region.

1997-1997 – Special Representative of Russian President in Chelyabinsk region.

1997-1998 – Deputy Minister of Finance.

April – September 1998 – Deputy Prime Minister.

Since October 1998 – Secretary of State – First Deputy of Russian Minister of Finance.

Since May 1999 – First Deputy of Russian Prime Minister.

Married. Three children.
