Medvedev and Obama: Reset and Tweet

President Barack Obama started the joint news conference devoted to the results of the talks with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev with a joke. Obama said that Twitter could replace hotline calls between the White House and the Kremlin, Itar-Tass reports.

Medvedev "visited the headquarters of Twitters where he opened his own account. “I have one, as well, so we may be able to finally throw away those red phones that have been sitting around for so long," Obama said.

The Russian president opened his account on Twitter on June 23, Wednesday. You can read Medvedev’s tweets here. The president of Russia posted his 19th message on his page several hours ago: “Haven't had a burger in a while. Lunch with Obama at Ray's Hell Burger.” The post comes with a link to photographs of Medvedev and Obama eating hamburgers. The two leaders were snapped eating, paying at cash desk and shaking hands with other visitors of the restaurant, Itar-Tass said.

The two presidents stated that Russia and the United States have been able to reset their relations successfully. The leaders of the two states agreed to accelerate Russia’s incorporation into the World Trade Organization. Obama and Medvedev agreed on partnership in the field of innovations, discussed the questions related to international adoption, the situation in Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, as well as the struggle against international terrorism.

Obama said that Russia and the USA still had several questions unsolved. One of them is Moscow’s attitude to Georgia, although Obama acknowledged that such issues were discussed frankly, Pravda.Ru said.

The two countries intend to continue cooperation in creating the mechanism to exchange information about the launches of ballistic missiles and space booster rockets. The final objective of this cooperation is the establishment of international system to monitor the launches of such missiles and exchange information about them.

The two presidents support the initiative to simplify travel regulations between Russia and the USA, especially for business people and scientists.

Russian and US experts actively work on the project of cooperation in the field of international adoption and have already achieved considerable progress at this point.

Medvedev has already arrived in Canada to attend the G8 summit in Huntsville due June 25-26 and the G20 summit in Toronto due June 26-27. A magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook eastern Canada Wednesday, but Toronto authorities said the tremors would not affect preparations for the G20 summit, RIA Novosti said.
