Finally, one of the most intriguing "mysteries" of all times has been revealed! How come French people are so slender, even though they do eat a lot of rich food? Joined research studies of both French and American Universities indicate that even though Americans and French consume practically the same nutrients, the latter simply eat lesser portions.
Everyone is aware of the French love for cheeses, meat and croissants. However, only 7% of the entire French adult population suffers from obesity. This is the lowest percentage rate among all of the industrially developed countries, reports ITAR-TASS.
The reason for such interesting paradox lies in the fact that in contrast to the US for instance, French consume lesser portions of food. To compare, an average pizza in Philadelphia weighs almost 25% more than an average pizza in Paris.
In Chinese restaurants in America for instance, portions are 70% larger than those in France. Also, such products as chocolate, beer, hamburgers are usually sold in bulk in American supermarkets.
As a result, despite the fact that French consume equal amount or more fatty products, Americans consume more calories, remarks the study.
