Ukrainian politician aims to ban Russian mass media in Ukraine

The head of the Committee for Freedom of Speech and Information Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Victoria Syumar, stated that she would no longer tolerate Russia's information warfare against Ukraine.

"I do not like to act in a frenzy, out of revenge, but I will do my best already tomorrow to prohibit Russian information products and impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, including about the ownership of the media that work in Ukraine. Did they want to drop Putin's iron curtain on Ukraine? We will make it a curtain against Putin. Don't talk about "harming the market" and "open world of information." Today's priorities are different," Syumar wrote on her Facebook page.

Not that long ago, Syumar announced that she would work on a law about xenophobia that would envisage criminal punishment for those "who do not like and fear the Ukrainians."

"I'm going to register a bill on xenophobia so that we have a direct understanding - if you're xenophobic, if you're afraid of the Ukrainians, then it is obvious that this is a violation, a serious crime, and such people should be punished," the official said.

As previously reported, Ukrainian TV channel Inter was persecuted for showing New Year's concert featuring Russian pop stars.
