According to the press service of the State Hermitage, the exhibit will include pictures, prints and sculptures by such widely known German impressionists as Ernst Barlach, Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Eric Heckel. Most interesting are grotesque satirical sketches by Otto Dix or Karl Hubbuch or water colours by Oscar Schlemmer. The post-war period of German art is represented by a number of works by Horst Antes, Georg Baselitz, Eugen Schenbeck, and Joseph Bois. This project was prepared jointly by the State Hermitage and the Deutsche Bank AG with the participation of the German Goethe Cultural Centre. Besides the exhibition, the project includes a symposium entitled Man in the 20th Century, and a public lecture by Ulrich Beck, a well-known sociologist, entitled On the Dialectics of Individualisation and Globalisation of Public Life
The exhibition will last until December 15.
Near the United Nations Glass Palace in New York, there is a metallic sculpture entitled "Evil Defeated by Good", representing Saint George transfixing a dragon with his lance. It was donated by the USSR in 1990 to celebrate the INF Treaty concluded with the USA in 1987
