Hydroxycut, the fat burner, which is extremely popular with fans of diet and bodybuilding, will be withdrawn from trade upon demand from the US federal authorities. The drug poses a health hazard to customers for it particularly causes damage to liver, the FDA said.
Hydroxycut, which is also available in Russia, is a weight loss supplement that helps decrease the content of water in the body.
The statement from the FDA says that the department received 23 health-related reports from people. They all suffered from various liver disorders – from jaundice and a higher level of enzymes in the liver (a symptom of liver deterioration) to the deterioration of the liver, which required a transplant surgery.
The department urged everyone who uses the supplement to immediately stop using all products of the Hydroxycut series produced by Iovate Health Sciences Inc. (Canada) and distributed in the USA by Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc, RIA Novosti reports.
Hydroxycut can cause seizures, disorders in the cardiovascular system, kidney and liver failure. Specialists have not determined the ingredient, which affects the liver and other internal organs.
The Canadian maker has already agreed to withdraw all products from retail networks. The company said that everyone will receive a refund upon the product return.
