Vancouver: Russia gets first medal

Russia gets the first medal in the Vancouver Olympics: Bronze Medal for Ivan Skobrev in the men’s 5.000 metre speed skating event. Olympic records already broken. IOC in deep mourning after death of luger Nodar Kumaritashvili.

In the 5 km speed skating event, Russia’s Ivan Skobrev won the bronze medal, 4 seconds behind the gold medallist , Sven Kramer (Netherlands) and just behind the young athlete from the Republic of Korea, Seung-Hoon Lee.
