The Argentinean midfield player D'Alessandro has edged fellow Argentinian Veron and the Brazilian striker Neymar into second and third place, respectively, to become the Best Soccer Player in America, 2010, awarded each year by the Uruguayan newspaper El País.
Three Argentineans in the top four, three midfield players: Andrès D'Alessandro (Internacional); Juan Sebastian Verón (Estudiantes) and Dario Conca (Fluminense), while El País chose the Brazilian striker Neymar (Santos) in third place, in the 25th edition of the Best Soccer Player in America awards.
D'Alessandro won the Copa Libertadores da América this year with Internacional; Verón had won the award in 2008 and 2009; Dario Conca was Brazilian champion this season with Fluminense and Neymar won the Brazilian Cup and São Paulo championship with Santos.
In El País' top ten, there are no less than five Argentineans (Andrès D'Alessandro, Juan Sebastian Verón, Dario Conca, Hilario Navarro (C.A. Independiente, goalkeeper) and Leandro Desábato (Estudiantes, Central Defender); two Brazilians, Neymar and Guiliano (Internacional, midfield player); two Uruguayans, Santiago "El Tanque" Silva (Striker, Banfield) and Mauricio Victorino (Defender, Universidad de Chile) and one Ecuadorian (Néicer Reasco, Defender, LDU Quito).
The award is given by the newspaper after consultation with journalists from across the American Continent, who elect the players they feel have played best in the soccer season.
