Russian northern fleet to test Bulava readiness

The Russian Northern Fleet is getting ready to test combat readiness of nuclear deterrence forces. Two state-of-the-art strategic ballistic missile submarines of the Project 955, namely "Yuriy Dolgorukiy" and "Vladimir Monomakh" are awaiting their sailing orders. One of them is to volley-fire intercontinental ballistic missiles Bulava. There have been only three such launches since the Soviet times. All the operations' code name was known as "Behemoth".

The last time such a volley fire was carried out by a nuclear submarine 667 BDRM Dolphin, named K-407 Novomoskovsk, under the command of Sergey Egorov in 1991. At the time, the missile submarine fired all of its ballistic missiles (RSM-54 Skif) in 1.5 minutes, which struck designated conditional targets on the Kura test site in Kamchatka.
