MERS coronavirus attacks Asia

In South Korea, a special group was established to counter the threat of the Middle East  respiratory syndrome. To date, the coronavirus has killed six people, 87 have been infected. World statistics is even worse: according to the World Health Organization, the virus has killed 444 people. For the time being, there is no vaccine for the disease. People with weakened immune system, chronic lung disease, diabetes and renal failure risk to catch the virus most.

Lyubov Zazimko, Advisor to Director of the Institute of Vaccines and Serums:

"This coronavirus is reminiscent of the SARS virus that also had acute symptoms. Yet, MERS coronavirus has a better ability to penetrate into lung cells of a human being. The virus breaks and disrupts the work of 207 lung genes. On the basis of these and other peculiarities of the virus, scientists are searching for the cure."
