US wants elections as in Russia

The US wants to turn to direct elections of the president. A corresponding legislation has been introduced by Barbara Boxer, Senator from California. It presupposes liquidation of the electoral college. Namely it chooses today a head of the country. Boxer noted that for the time being the US is the only country in the world, where one can gain the majority of votes and nonetheless fail in elections. According to her, the existing system with electoral college is out-of-date and is not a democratic one. The Senator declared that the order should be changed immediately. Boxer also reminded of Trump's statement, as he tweeted in 2012 that "The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy."

However, there are little chances that the legislation will be adopted. The majority in the Congress belongs to winners of the elections - the Republicans. They would hardly like to change the system which brought their candidate to power, the Fox News believes. Beside that, even in case they decide to adopt the initiative, it will require amendments in the Constitution and approval by three-fourths of the states within seven years.
