Pentagon trades in 'Russian threat'

Official spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry Major-General Igor Konashenkov explained that claims of the US military about Russia being the main threat to the national security of the US are connected with debates on the military budget in the Congress.
Konashenkov said, that "loud statements of the American defence agencies, that have viewed Russia as the main threat to the US national security, are no surprise for us. Such a wave is brought up every year at the same time. The reason is simple - discussions of the military budget size in the Congress for the following year."
According to him, "it is important to keep in mind that the 'Russian threat' has been the most successfully 'sold' one by the Pentagon since the mid of last century and not only to the American Congress, but the NATO partners too. What would they do without us?"
