17 year old Katie Osby was driving home from a friend’s house when she saw an ATV in the middle of the road and a person under it.
She stopped, jumped out of her car, and called 911.
I quote the article in the Minneapolis Star:
She turned her attention to the stricken man, who was tangled up with the machine.
"Where do you hurt?" she asked
"Legs," he answered.
Carefully she lifted the heavy machine off the man.
"I don't know if it was adrenaline or what, but I was able to lift it off," she said.
Osby, who plans to pursue a medical-related career after high school and college, saw a lot of blood. But she couldn't tell where it was flowing from. She decided to leave the bleeding issue to the pros. She would try to keep the man calm.
"Can I get you anything?" she asked.
"You have a pillow?" he asked.
As a matter of fact, she did have a pillow. Her favorite big, pink, puffy pillow that she'd taken to her friend's house was in the back seat.
She raced to the car, got the pillow and placed it under the man's head”.
The wife of the injured man said that the four-wheeler rolled on her husband in such a way that it severed an artery in his leg. He would have bled to death had it not been Katie Osby.
