NATO again violating Pakistani airspace

Prensa Latina

NATO helicopters conducted a raid in Pakistan despite the recent protests by the local government against violations of its airspace by the allied forces in Afghanistan, television reported today. According to the current privately owned DawnNews, citing unnamed military sources, the most recent incident took place yesterday in the south western province of Balochistan, near the Chaman border post.

"Two helicopters penetrated into our territory and then withdrew" (to Afghanistan), said the military, quoted by the media.

The source added that the high command of NATO in the neighboring country was informed of the incident, and that the Pakistani authorities were making a formal protest.

It was the latest violation of Pakistani airspace since September 30 last, when several helicopters in the service of foreign forces in Afghanistan flew across the border to attack suspected Afghan rebels.

In one attack, three Pakistani soldiers were killed, which provoked an angry protest from Islamabad. In reprisal, the NATO supply route through its territory was closed for 10 days.

The supply route was reopened on Sunday after the high command of the occupying troops apologized to Pakistan.
