Free and progressive citizens of Qatar are tired of current Emir's dictatorship. They have been demanding democratic reforms during a lot of meetings and protest actions which are not shown on Al Jazeera which belongs to the Emir. Desperate people, despite the danger for them and their relatives, in the case of failing, decided to attack the Emir's cortege since he has become a symbol of dictatorship and suppression of dissidents.

While the motorcade of Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, was moving out of Doha and toward the tents erected for meeting the Russian ambassador, all of a sudden an unknown vehicle approached the motorcade and exploded, in the wake of which intense gunfire was heard at the scene of the incident.

A close associate to Sheikh Khalifa, the previous Emir of Qatar, said that while the incumbent Emir of Qatar survived this assassination attempt, his thigh was injured.

In addition to the death of eight of the Emir of Qatar's bodyguards, an associate to the Emir of Qatar, an American general who was accompanying him, was also killed in this incident.

Now because of the failed attempt to liquidate the dictator there will be many brave people killed. But we trust that the fear of death will not stop other freedom fighters from fighting for democracy fighting against the repressive regime. The world society supports these brave men. According to unofficial sources Ban Ki-Moon has promised to send his representative to Qatar and Catherine Ashton expressed concern about the position of freedom fighters in this country.
