EU Presidency: Social and Employment policies
Flexi-Security kicks off at Guimaraes; informal meeting of Ministers of Employment and Social Affairs 5, 6 and 7 July. Improvement in coordination of social and employment policies under discussion, with a view to creating more flexible contractual policies, favouring the companies, while guaranteeing work security, supporting workers’ rights.
An informal meeting of Ministers of Employment and Social Affairs started today in the city of Guimaraes (the birthplace of Portugal) in the North of the country to discuss improvement in the coordination of social and employment policies with regard to the changing scenario in the EU and the corresponding challenges to the economic, social and institutional frameworks.
Joint Statement against Poverty
Portugal, Spain and Italy sign a joint statement against poverty in the Spanish city of Alicante today (Friday). Joao Gomes Cravinho will represent Portugal (Secretary of State for Cooperation and Foreign Affairs), while his counterpart Leire Pajin of Spain and Patrizia Sentinelli will represent thir countries. The three southern European states will commit themselves to concentrating efforts to fight poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
