Russian Foreign Minister draws UN Secretary-General's attention to situation surrounding Russo-Georgian border - 14 September, 2002

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has met UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in New York to draw his attention to the situation surrounding the Russo-Georgian border. According to official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko, at the meeting the officials stressed that there were grounds to conclude that Tbilisi failed to observe UN Security Council Resolution 1373 binding for all nations.

Inanov and Annan agreed that the Iraqi issue should be resolved only by political and diplomatic means.

Participants in the meeting also laid emphasis on the necessity to continue coordinating efforts of the four international mediators in the Mideastern settlement - Russia, the US, the UN and the European Union (EU).
