Fighters for Democracy Need Ladies' Underwear

There is nothing funny about what is going on in Iraq today. But sometimes news agencies publish really strange reports
On January 15, an unusual report arrived from Estonia. The problem is that at the end of 2003, the Estonian InteriorMinistry received a letter on 15 pages signed by US Attache for Security David Whitehead. The letter requested Estonia's authorities to help the occupation administration of Iraq.

The letter was supplied with an extensive list of items important for the Iraqi authorities. Americans would like to recruit a prison manager, a prison psychologist, an architect for construction of prisons, jailers and policemen. What is more, there was a request to send more munitions to Iraq: 70,000 pairs of handcuffs, 5,000 shields and rubber batons for the police, 18,000 pump guns, 18,000 autos and 250 megaphones.

It is not clear why Americans applied for assistance to Estonia. The letter was supplied with a funny attachment: Americans requested clothes for prisoners and for wardens. Journalists could not resist the temptation of specifying what exactly Americans requested in the letter: 60,000 bras, 60,000 pairs of underwear and 60,000 sanitary towels.

Director of the Estonia Police Department Robert Antropov said in an interview to Eesti Ekspress newspaper that the department had no opportunity to render material and technical assistance to new police subdivisions in Iraq. At the same time, some of Estonian policemen would like to work in Iraq.
