Alternative Germany wants to lift sanctions against Russia to save 42,000 jobs

German opposition party "Alternative for Germany" (ADH) is to send a resolution to the government of Baden-Württemberg about the need to lift sanctions against Russia

The initiator of the document, MP Udo Stein, noted that the restrictive measures against Moscow had produced a particularly negative impact on Baden-Württemberg, a German region with a highly developed economy, the Izvestia newspaper said.

According to the MP, more than 900 companies in the region have their presence in Russia. Due to Germany's current course in foreign policy, 42,000 people may lose their jobs, the official said.

Baden-Württemberg has the highest export performance in Germany. With export  revenues of 17,000 euros per person a year, the region goes ahead the national average index of Germany - 11,000 euros - with every third able-bodied resident working for exports.

"Anti-Russian sanctions should be lifted; they have turned against us and have negative consequences for the economy. Russia is one of the key partners for Baden-Württemberg, and trade relations should not decline," Stein said.

The head of the party administration, Marcus Fronmayer, said that the resolution would be sent to other federal parliaments. The party is currently represented in the legislative bodies of eight out of sixteen federal states of Germany - Bremen, Brandenburg, Baden-Württemberg, Hamburg and Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.

Noteworthy, people of Germany believe that the EU should either ease or lift the sanctions against Russia. Only 18% of German respondents insist on maintaining the embargo against Russia, German publication Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten said with reference to a survey conducted by German research institute Forsa. According to the survey, 35 percent of Germans support the complete lifting of the sanctions against Russia. In addition, 36 percent of Germans want to ease the policy of the European Union in relation to the embargo.

Politicians representing such organizations of Germany as the CDU, CSU, SPD and the "Greens" also stand against the policy of sanctions in relations with Russia. Anti-Russian sanctions are especially unpopular in Eastern Germany.
