Ninety years ago, on January 16, 1920, the Eighteenth Amendment came into effect in the US, prohibiting or limiting sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol for consumption. It was not a new initiative, since the first restrictions for manufacturing and sales of alcohol in the US took place as early as in the middle of the 19th century.
