Chrysler Group LLC will report a double-digit increase in July sales compared with June when it release its numbers later Monday.
The auto maker said sales of its small cars - the Patriot, Compass and Caliber - will be up triple digits due in part to the U.S. government's "Cash for Clunkers" program, Chrysler spokeswoman Kathy Graham said. The company will report a single-digit percentage year-over-year decrease in July sales , Wall Street Journal reports.
The latest Invest in America numbers showed that from December 2008 through June 2009 the program facilitated 175,261 cars sold for GM and Chrysler and 140,209 loans through credit unions totaling $2.8 billion. In the month of June, there were 35,938 Chrysler and GM cars sold through the program, and 26% of Chrysler’s car sales for June came through Invest in America , Credit Union Times reports.
"We have had one of the strongest 10 day periods in our history," Brown said Monday, adding Saturday's business was his dealership's best day in the last two years.
Automakers are set to announce new car sales Monday while the U.S. Senate is considering growing the Cash for Clunkers program from $1 billion up to $3 billion, Louisville Courier-Journal reports.
