A Chechen native, suspected of involvement in the activity of illegal armed formations, was killed in armed resistance to police in Ingushetia (republic in the Southern Federal district bordering on Chechnya).
The provisional press center of the Russian interior ministry in the North Caucasus reported that on February 29, at about 4:00pm, the staff members of the Russian interior ministry's mobile detachment and of the republican FSB department requested that a Zhiguli car with three people inside stop for checking documents in the outskirts of the Kantyshevo village (Nazran district). The driver and the passengers of the car opened fire at the officers. Retaliatory fire killed one of the attackers; the two others disappeared.
The killed man was identified - he was Beslan Khatuyev, a Chechen who temporarily lived in Kantyshevo. The policemen confiscated two pistols with cartridges and found an official certificate issued for the name of a policeman of an extra-departmental guard regiment under the Chechen republic's interior ministry and an F-1 combat grenade with a fuse.
Investigation is underway.
