Vladimir Putin does not rule out the creation in Russia of a special federal service for combating illegal drug trafficking. Speaking on Monday in a live TV broadcast, the Russian president drew attention to the fact that because of the border transparency between Afghanistan and a number of former USSR republics, a "direct flow" of drugs goes by transit through the Russian territory from that country. A considerable part of them "remains in Russia". "This is precisely why it is very important for us to liquidate the hotbed of drug production, trade and banditry on the territory of Afghanistan. It is from there that the flow of drugs went to Russia and, unfortunately, continues to go," the president said. Vladimir Putin also pointed out that the struggle against this evil is a very difficult task which requires huge money resources. He pointed to a number of directions along which the work should be done for combating the spread of drugs in Russia. In addition, organisational and legal measures are also needed. The President stressed that the technical and personnel system of law-enforcement bodies will be strengthened. Vladimir Putin believes that the state should also work in other directions -- prophylactic and medical.
