A special operation, codenamed "Angel" has been launched in the Chechen capital of Grozny. The operation was launched due to information that about 50 guerrillas penetrated the Chechen capital. Dozens of people have already been detained. This operation is the largest since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation in the republic. The operation is being conducted without the participation of the federal forces, and only the troops of the Chechen internal affairs are involved.
The local policemen started the special operation in the central district of Grozny, detaining dozens of the people who did not look like the peaceful vendors. Six leaders of the terrorist groups, 30 guerrillas, and eight criminals have been detained over the ten days of the operation. Four people were nabbed for their participation in armed attacks, and six people were arrested for terrorist actions on the territory of Chechnya. The Internal Affairs Department in Chechnya informed that the Chechen police examined and checked 8000 citizens, 1340 vehicles, and 1700 houses.
RIA Novosti informed that there were six special operations conducted in different areas of the republic yesterday, which turned up about 1000 ammunition depots nine landmines and hand-made explosives. One of the most relevant discoveries is the anti-aircraft emplacement Igla, which was probably used for hitting air targets in the mountainous areas of Chechnya. A tragedy almost happened in Chechnya's second largest city Gudermes. An terrorist act was prevented after sappers found a hand-made explosive not far from the city hospital.
The Defense Ministry reported that the Russian military destroyed 12,760 guerrillas over three and a half years. The former president of Chechnya, Aslan Maskhadov, still hopes for something big. He addressed representatives of the Chechen diaspora in the republic of Azerbaijan, urging to start the fight against the Russian federal forces. The council of the diaspora refused Maskhadov's request, calling upon him to stop the activities of the armed extremist groups in Chechnya.
Ytro.Ru published the transcript of a video with Aslan Maskhadov’s speeches (the video was found by the Russian special forces). The tape proved that any contacts with Maskhadov were out of the question, with the exception of the capitulation issue. Maskhadov hates Russia, and he is ready to wage war until his dying day.
