The French failed to defeat the Russian football team on their field. All negative emotions of the disappointed 80 thousand French fans were concentrated on the last 15-20 minutes of the match – on Valery Karpin – the half-back of the Russian and Spanish Celta team. Karpin arranged fights on the field several times, after the tough attacks from the adversary.
As soon as Valery had the ball, the people on the stadium were whistling excitedly. The French failed to gain revenge for the defeat in the summer of 1999, when the game was over with the score 2:3. The score in yesterday’s game remained unopened – 0:0. The match was taking place at the territorial advantage of the hosts, which was getting rather impressive during the second time of the game. The French team was demonstrating straight-out struggle, backed up with perfect techniques, they had very good opportunities for opening the score. But the Russian goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin was invincible.
Ruslan Nigmatullin proved that he was number one goalkeeper in Russia, in spite of the fact that things had not been good for him in Italian Veron.
The disappointed organizers of the match made the Russian goalkeeper undergo a doping test after the match. The major goal for the Russian team was not to miss, and head coach Romantsev selected very good players for that, the defense was not making serious mistakes.
There was a press conference after the match and the coach of the French team expressed his high opinion about the Russian players. He was “happy about the fact that France would not meet with the Russian team in quarter-finals of the world championship, so the French coach does not have any doubts that the Russian team will enter the list of eight strongest teams of the world.
The adversaries of the Russian team for the coming football championship of the world in Japan and Korea also played matches yesterday. Japan had a draw game with Costa Rica (1:1), Belgium had the same score with Slovakia, and Tunis lost Slovenia with the score 0:1.
