Dmitry Fedulov:The summit in SHARM-EL-SHEIKH is concluded with Clinton’s fiasco

The summit for the adjustment of the Near-Eastern problems in Sharm-el-Sheikh have came to the end at last. Making a conclusion, US President Bill Clinton said that Israel and Palestine had made progress in the adjustment of the situation in the Near East. According to Clinton, Israel is going to raise a blockade in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and to take measures to resume the functioning of the air-port. EFE agency announced citing diplomatic sources that in course of the consultations which took place today through the mediation of the US President, the moot points were closed down. The sources announces that there are three basic statutes of the agreement: the obligation to resume peace negotiations, the establishment of the international committee for investigation of the recent events and the advent of mutual measures of confidence. As a matter of fact, it is clear that the negotiations which Bill Clinton pinned hopes on, were concluded by nothing. The moot points were rather covered up than closed down. At the beginning of the Near-Eastern peace negotiations the one could regard the mutual wishes of the its participants as a success. But it is obvious now that the efforts of the President are concluded in collapse. The conferees returned to the basic statutes of the negotiations without settling any problem. The obligation to return to the peace negotiations is regarded as a main achievement of the agreement, as if the Near-eastern peace process was interrupted and resumed due to the efforts of the American President. The decision to take measures to recommence the functioning of the international airport is another evidence of insignificance of the summit. Why should the great ones of this world settle such particular questions? However, the answer is simple: better a small fish than an empty dish.
