Zhirinovsky suggests to exchange Pope

American businessman Edmond Pope, who was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment and appealed to the Russian president to remit his sentence, may be exchanged for Aldridge Aims serving his sentenced in the US for espionage in Russia's favor, stated Duma vice speaker Vladimir Zhirinovsky in an interview with RBC. "The exchange of sentenced special services agents is a common practice for two countries equal in power and competitive in the international arena," he said. In his opinion, a severe sentence pronounced to Pope shows that Russia has stopped to feel a false piety to the United States. "In any case, Russian secret services have detained and will continue detaining foreign spies, and America will have to reckon with this," summed up Zhirinovsky.
