DEMOCRATS TO HAND OVER POWER TO REPUBLICANS TODAY

A short ceremony is to take place today in Washington signifying the start of transferring the power from the Bill Clinton administration to that of George W. Bush who has won the presidential election. Former defence minister Richard Cheini who has won vice-presidency will be handed the keys to the offices situated in downtown Washington. There, Mr. Bush’s team will be housed for the transition period taking charge of the process of power transfer, selecting the staff for the Bush-Cheini administration, and of preparing the new president’s being sworn in. Immediately after Mr. Gore “offered his concessions,” the administration of general services, part of the US government, issued a ruling handing over the above offices to the new president’s transitional team as well as allocating $5.3m from the federal budget to cover the costs of the power transfer.
