Commander-in-Chief of RF Navy Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov declared that 2001 will be the year of entrance of the Russian Navy to the World Ocean. “In 2001 Russian Navy is going out to the World Ocean, the time for the ships to leave the piers have come”, said the commander-in-chief. According to him, the main purpose of the putting out of dozens of ships within a year is training of their crews, resumption of the practice of active service. He stressed that putting out of the ships is not concerned with any aggressive plans of Russian military command. “We are just returning to the World Ocean: we began to go out there 40 years ago, when Soviet Navy was established”, “Interfax” reports. First of all the ships will return to the places of their constant duty in the Atlantic, in the Indian Ocean, and in the Mediterranean Sea.
