Nearly 300 killed, 1,500 wounded last year in Russia as a result of bombings

Following yesterday’s blast in the Moscow metro, Russia’s chief police investigator General Valeri Beyev disclosed terrible statistics. According to the general, 277 people were killed and 1,418 were wounded in 2000 as a result of crimes committed using various-kind explosives. The majority of the bombings are reported to have occurred in Chechnya, Daghestan, and the Stavropol Territory, the solvability rate of the above crimes being estimated at 44%. In General Beyev’s words, the assailants mostly used grenades and self-made devices. The bombs would go off at residential houses, apartments, porches, on the streets, in cars, cafes, restaurants, stores, and market places. The Interior Ministry’s special units specialize in tackling such crimes.
