Federation Council approves law on reorganisation of Russian power agencies

The Federation Council /the upper chamber of the Russian parliament/ endorsed Thursday the federal law on the reform of the country's power agencies.

As Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Defence and Security Committee Valery Manilov explained, the law is aimed at creating the basis to reform the system of state control in the security sphere.

The State committee on counteraction of drug and psychotropic turnover of the Russian Interior Ministry has been restructured, in line with the law, into the Russian State Committee on control over drug and psychotropic turnover.

The federal tax police has also been abolished, with its functions to discover, prevent and suppress tax crimes and violations being transferred to the Russia Interior Ministry.

The federal border service has also been abolished, with its functions being delegated to the Russian federal security service.

The Federal presidential agency of governmental communication and information has also been abolished, with its authorities being also delegated to other bodies.
