On Friday Prince Andrew, Duke of York, the son of Queen of the United Kingdom Elizabeth II, completed his visit to Sakhalin (a Russian island in the Pacific) in the course of his Asian tour. He is currently visiting Japan.
As the RIA Novosti correspondent reports, the aircraft of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain with the Prince on board left the airport of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (the administrative centre of the Region) at about 03.00 Moscow time.
The visit of Prince Andrew to the island began on April 27. During his stay on Sakhalin the Prince, who is the British government's special representative for international trade and investments, familiarized himself with the course of the implementation of the large oil and gas projects on shelf.
In particular, he ascertained the aspects of the British companies' work on the island.
On Wednesday the Prince familiarized himself with the carrying out of the second stage of the large oil and gas project in which the Royal/Dutch Shell corporation takes part.
The Prince also visited the headquarters of the Sakhalin Energy consortium in which the British-Dutch corporation owns a controlling block of shares, and opened its second office building in the centre of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Furthermore, he had meetings with the management of the British Petroleum Sakhalin company, as well as of European Landmine Solutions, which do contract works to implement the Sakhalin oil and gas projects, and are engaged in clearing the route of the oil and gas pipeline from the north to the south of the island, which is under construction, of the unexploded munitions of the second world war time.
