"Demonstration of power without regard to laws is extremely dangerous for development of a country," former YUKOC CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky announced during the ongoing trial in the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow. According to him, the YUKOS case had been actively discussed in Russia over the past year. People debated on whether the case was politically motivated or just a common legal case. People could have made their own conclusions, he said. There are those who believe that any charge against a head of a large company, who is apparently not a poor man, is justified. Khodorkovsky added. "One cannot influence these people to change their opinion," he said. "However, I do not want other people to consider that I use political declarations to protect myself from legal charges," he emphasized.
