Russia's parliament voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to adopt a sweeping amnesty for prisoners who fought in World War II, freeing all jailed veterans regardless of the gravity of their crimes.
The amnesty, which was effective immediately, was part of celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Nazi defeat in World War II. The vote was 435-0.
Some 200 people fall under the amnesty, which also included those held in Nazi concentration camps and home front workers as well as veterans.
The massive explosion at the port of Beirut occurred due to the detonation of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, which was seized in 2014 from the ship Rhosus
