Russian tax agencies will start collecting tax declarations for 2001 from Russian citizens today. According to information from the Tax Ministry, declarations may be submitted until April 30, 2002. The ministry expects the number of tax declarations submitted by individuals to increase significantly in view of changes in Russian tax legislation in 2001 that are favorable for taxpayers. In particular, some payments are exempted from taxes in case of expenditures for education and medical treatment.
